An Intro To Beginner Ballerina Blog!

Hi everyone. My name is Ava, I started ballet at age 13, and I'm a ballerina. Now I know what you must be thinking-- a ballerina? Starting at 13? Yeah, right.

That's what I thought, too.

The truth is that anyone who has the passion can be a ballerina, no matter their age. Ever since we were little girls we dreamed of being a ballerinas dancing up on stage in tutus, tights, and buns. Not to mention the all too glorified pointe shoes! But for those of you like me who didn't join (or stick to) that ballet class in pre-school, this blog is for you. I'll be posting advice for beginning teenage ballet dancers, guiding you to your dream of one day dancing up on that stage. I'll also include plenty of fun ballet fashion, tips and tricks, answers to questions, and much more ballet related posts on the way.

So it's time to let that inner-ballerina out! ...finally!

  1. Hey!
I'm 12. Just a year ago I got interested in ballet. I begged my mom to enroll me for ballet classes. She finally agreed, so I'm going to take classes in December. Problem is, I don't know much about ballet.

  2. HI!
my name is Amelia and i started about a year ago at age 13. i looooooove it soo much and it is my passion and i want to go professional :) right now i am dancing at a studio which is not serious about ballet :( it does alot of hip-hop and jazz and lyrical/modern. But my instructor is a former ballerina and she attended a very professional school when she was younger. she is very good but the other people in my class dont even care about ballet they are just doing it because their other instructors said ballet will help them with their other dance. but i am serious about ballet and i am the best in my class.. also idk if this means anythin but my instructor says im "gifted" wht ever that means ahha :))). So iim going to transfer to the metropolitan ballet theater and i already have my letter of recondmendation. also im going to attend the summer intensive there and start training their next semmester/year. this is all kinda random and im probably boring you hah but i was wondering if you had any tips for me ?? like.. what are soe requirements for some ballet schools ...like.. weight , height, (im 5 foot 3 inch. and about 98 pounds) or do i need to have my tripple ? and do i have to have my middle split i have my right and left but i have 4 inches on my strattle/middle splits. wow. i wrote alot ahah but ur blog/website rlly inspired me ... thanxxx sooo much

  4. Hi, I'm Ashley, and I was wondering. where did you go that allowed someone of your age to start as a beginner there? I have been looking and can only find places that say at 13 or 14 you have to be at an intermediate level...can you help?

  5. I am 15 and always have been in love with ballet. We have never has the money for me to start ballet and now that I can even afford to think about it I have been worried I will not be able to catch up to others my age. A main worry I have is my physical traits. I have noticed that most dancers in ballet are thin long and small chested. I am 5'5 and rather long, have a normal weight, but am rather busty. Could this be a problem?

  8. Hi, I'm 14 turning 15 soon and i was wondering, is it too late to start a career as a ballerina? I have done calisthenics before and am currently doing ballroom, latin and street latin dance.
I have never done ballet before but all my danceteachers have said that i am really graceful and would be good at ballet but most ballerinas i've seen are all skinny and have no chest whereas i have a fairly big bust and my legs aren't that skinny.
What grade would you suggest me going into as i don't want to be too behind but i am commited and will work as hard as i can to catch up.

  10. love this blog :)

I'm a 21-year old Finn who started dancing just two years ago and i love it! It has enriched my life in so many ways. I've been on pointe for a year now and am determined to keep on training.

One of my inspirations is Vanessa Sah, who started at 18 and is now with the Anaheim ballet. She's such a beautiful dancer.

I write a ballet blog myself. It's in finnish but I'm planning on adding english translations soon.

    love, kris

  11. I'm a 14 year old girl who started last month. I've never had any kind of dance experience, and wasn't very flexible. I absolutely love ballet and encourage anyone to join. Your tips have gotten my splits lower and my pirouettes are better. My teacher is very impressed! Thanks so much for the blog!

  17. Hello! I'm about to turn 15, and I've been taking ballet for 7 months. Due the 4-5 classes I take every week, I've progressed fast enough to go on point sometime during the next month or two. I definitely have the passion to excel in dance; I stretch every day for around 20-30 minutes and I am constantly reading books and blogs like your own. However, I'm still quite old for a beginner. Do you think there's any chance of me being a professional? I definitely don't want to get my hopes up, but your story makes my goal seem more attainable. I want to know if I'm being unrealistic given my current age and practicing habits.
